232016fix1I purchased Spy-Hunters #17* (April-May 1952, American Comics Group) for its motorcycle cover.   Unfortunately, as is typical with many books, there is no motorcycle story on the inside.

The cover does illustrate the shift of “Golden Age” World War II era books into what many collectors term the “Atomic Age” – still pre-code but, as shown on this cover, reflective of new enemies and cold war fears.  The book is packed with tales of communist infiltrators.   I’ve highlighted panels from the story Mauling in Morocco (artwork tentatively attributed to George Wilhelms by CGD).  Hero Barry Gordon finds Moroccan beauty Zarina quite enchanting, and a bad guy “monster” finds her skills throwing a knife to be quite accurate, even at over long distances.
