While I had been looking for an Ozzie and Babs #9 (February 1949) for what seems like forever, I ran across Fawcett‘s Ozzie and Babs #4* (September 1948). The series is a better than the average teen humor offering that does manage to stand out in a very crowded field.
According to Atomic Avenue: “Ozzie Turner is a typical goofy high-school kid obsessed with his blond-bombshell girlfriend Babs. Of course, the way Babs is drawn, it would be hard for any red-blooded teenager not to be obsessed. In the art style of the book, everyone is doodled in a lighthearted, Archie-ish style except the women, who are rendered with emphasis on more naturalistic details. Seems like a recipe for success in the competitive world of high-school hi-jinx comics.”
