The wild success of Joe Palooka is already well documented. Harvey, a publisher not to let an opportunity pass, spun off Joe’s sidekick Humphrey to his own title. Shown here in it’s early football glory is #14 from December 1950.
Humphrey is portrayed as lacking facilities upstairs, a shortcoming that is more than made up for with his soft heart and his ‘er, well large stature. Being such a large man had its advantages, such as in clobbering opponents in the boxing ring and, as show here, on the gridiron.
